Calcium Silicon Alloy

Calcium silicon alloy is a binary alloy made up of silicon and calcium, belonging to the category of ferroalloy. Calcium Silicon Alloy (Calcium Silicide) is used as a deoxidizer and desulfurizer in steel manufacturing. Ultra high purity, high purity, submicron and nanopowder forms may be considered.

Introduction of Calcium Silicon Alloy:

Calcium silicon alloy is a binary alloy made up of silicon and calcium, belonging to the category of ferroalloy. Its main contents are silicon and calcium, and varying amounts of impurities of iron, aluminum, carbon, sulfur and phosphorus. In steel industry, it is used as calcium additive, deoxidizer, desulfurizer and denaturant of non-metallic inclusions. In the cast iron industry, it is used as inoculant and denaturant.

Application:

Calcium has a strong affinity with oxygen, sulfur, hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon in molten steel, so calcium silicon alloy is mainly used for deoxidizing, degassing and fixing sulfur. A strong exothermic effect is produced when silicon and calcium are added into molten steel. Calcium turns into calcium vapor in molten steel, which has stirring effect on molten steel and is favorable to the floating of non-metallic inclusions. After deoxygenation, there is non-metallic inclusions generated which have larger particles and are easy to float up, meanwhile the shape and properties of non-metallic inclusions are also changed. Therefore, calcium silicon alloy is used to produce clean steel, high quality steel with low oxygen and sulfur content, and special performance steel with extremely low oxygen and sulfur content. In the out-of-furnace refining technology of steel, the content of oxygen and sulfur in the steel is reduced to a very low level by deoxidizing and desulphurizing with silicon calcium powder or cored wire. It can also control the form of sulfide in steel and improve the utilization rate of calcium. In the production of cast iron, CaSi alloy not only plays a role in deoxygenation and purification, but also plays a role in inoculation, which helps to form fine or spherical graphite, making the distribution of graphite in gray cast iron uniform, reducing the tendency of white casting, and increasing silicon, desulfurization, improving the quality of cast iron.
